Briefing Hut

Description

The crew briefing hut adjacent to the operations block at RAF Rivenhall in Essex, England. The pilots and navigators would receive their mission briefings in this room from the Group Commander prior to their sorties over Nazi-occupied Europe in 1943-1944. The operations site here remains complete and in remarkably good condition, but is has almost totally disappeared beneath trees and shrubs. The Ops Block itself is reputed to be haunted by a pilot who was lost on a mission.

Good stuff. I recently re-subscribed to 'After The Battle' magazine,a Great Publication of 'Then&Now' comparison photos and Mil History subjects-Your work reminds me of their photos. '.I ve Google Earthed around-[above?] UK-amongst other places-and its always cool to find the old WW2 Airfields -even the overgrown ones can be spotted once you get an 'eye' for the big triangular Runway schemes they used.70 years on-its amazing to think that any of the wartime 'temporary' Buildings are still so intact.Ha-now I'll have to look up 'Twelve O'Clock high w/ GregoryPeck-where the Base's wartime Doctor visits the old Airbase on a trip back to UK.
